The Heart and Soul Animal Sanctuary is a place of refuge for neglected, abused, and abandoned animals in northern New Mexico. We provide the care necessary to rehabilitate and re-home animals and a permanent residence for those who are too traumatized, sick, or injured to be placed. We do not cage animals, but instead provide them with the freedom to socialize, as we believe this is the best way to restore their trust. We work with schools and community groups to educate the public on humane animal care and encourage pet adoption. We work toward a future free of cruelty toward animals.

Founder, Natalie Owings, has been working tirelessly at the sanctuary, without salary, since 1997. She began her efforts on just one acre of land, taking in as many animals as she could care for. In 2000, a generous donation of 130 wooded acres was gifted to the sanctuary. Our permanent residents include horses, llamas, goats, chickens, turtle doves, rabbits, guinea pigs, cats, and dogs. When we cannot accommodate an animal on our land, we collaborate with other sanctuaries to ensure the safety of all animals in need.
